Christianity within PSHE

Developing Character, Wellbeing and Values

At Cinnamon Brow CE Primary School, our Christian vision of providing every child with "hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11) influences all aspects of school life, including Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education.

We believe that PSHE plays an important role in helping children develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to flourish both now and in the future. Through PSHE, pupils learn how to build healthy relationships, make responsible choices, care for their physical and mental wellbeing and become positive members of society.

Our PSHE curriculum is delivered through the Kapow Primary programme and is informed by guidance from the PSHE Association. These resources support us in delivering a high-quality, age-appropriate curriculum that meets the needs of our pupils.

How Does Christianity Influence PSHE?

Whilst PSHE is not a Religious Education subject, it provides many opportunities for children to explore values that are central to our Christian vision.

Through PSHE, pupils are encouraged to:

  • Show compassion and kindness towards others.
  • Respect differences and celebrate diversity.
  • Develop honesty, integrity and responsibility.
  • Build positive and healthy relationships.
  • Demonstrate empathy and forgiveness.
  • Consider issues of fairness, justice and equality.
  • Reflect on how their actions affect others.
  • Make a positive contribution to their communities.

These principles reflect the teachings of Jesus and support our aim of helping children become respectful, responsible and caring citizens.

Supporting Human Flourishing

Our Christian vision reminds us that every person is uniquely valued and has the potential to flourish. Through PSHE, children learn to:

  • Recognise their own worth and strengths.
  • Develop resilience when faced with challenges.
  • Understand how to keep themselves physically and mentally healthy.
  • Build confidence and self-esteem.
  • Develop aspirations and hope for the future.
  • Respect and value others.

These learning opportunities help children grow academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Courageous Advocacy and Citizenship

PSHE also supports our commitment to courageous advocacy. Children are encouraged to think critically about issues of fairness and injustice and to consider how they can make a positive difference in the world.

Through discussion, reflection and action, pupils develop an understanding of:

  • Equality and inclusion.
  • Rights and responsibilities.
  • Community and belonging.
  • Environmental responsibility.
  • Supporting those in need.

By developing these attributes, we empower children to become compassionate and active citizens who contribute positively to society.

Our Vision in Action

At Cinnamon Brow CE Primary School, we believe that PSHE and our Christian vision work together to support the development of the whole child.

Through high-quality PSHE education, rooted in our values of hope, compassion, respect and service, we help every child to flourish and to look towards the future with confidence, purpose and hope.

Our vision of "Hope and a Future" encourages every child to understand their value, care for others and develop the knowledge and character needed to flourish in an ever-changing world.
